At Emostel Academy, we equip students with all it takes to ease their study and achieve great success in their respective fields, based on our skills and experience in the school. We've virtually been through it all and we know so well about the system so we have solution to all the challenges faced by students and we provide them, thereby making studying in the school easy for them. Our handouts, CDs, Practical sessions, Seminar/Counselling sessions, etc., have contributed a great deal to students success. Even with these, we still work harder and think stronger to find ways to serve students much better.

We hereby state clearly, that Emostel Academy is not an annex of NOUN. It is a study group and as well a private tutorial centre (although it is mostly dedicated to NOUN students). We are a group that provide solution to challenges encountered by students studying in NOUN and also ensure that students are getting what they need to get and become what they are actually meant to become. We do not in any way stand against the school or use the name of the school to publicize ourselves. We are stating this very clearly in order to avoid any misconceptions or troubles of any kind. We would not do anything against the legal outlines of the school. That is the reason why we do not use the school name or the school premises. Our aims are not principally to make money, extort students of their funds or supply sub-standard information. As a matter of fact, we are indirectly helping the school to actualize its purpose and enhance its expectations. However, the school permits group studies/tutorials as usually advised during orientation. Besides NOUN students, we provide private/external tutorials (outside our centre) for students of other schools at various academic levels. Therefore, we do not canvass any student by trick or force them to join us. Every student who decides to join does that on his or her own personal will, and will thus get every single service we promised. The academy was created by and made of NOUN students and Our principal aim is the welfare and quality academic performance of students due to the passion we have for what we do. Our charges are very moderate despite our quality of delivery and the cost of our facilities and rents.

NOUN, its System and Expectations
National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is a distance learning institute mainly fashioned for the working class (although it is as well open to other categories of students). Thus, its mode of delivery is fairly different from those of conventional universities like UNILAG, etc. Once you are admitted and cleared, you are provided with course materials and expected to study over 70% on your own while the school's facilitation covers the remaining. However, the school's facilitation is normally not intended for indepth teaching/lecturing, rather than to further fine-tune the students on what they are expected to have covered and also help students get rid of some of their challenges during personal studies and that is why it is called 'facilitation'. It usually holds a few weeks before the exam and the classes are held in the evening on selected days during the week and on Saturdays.
STUDENTS, their Need and Thoughts
Many students that are admitted into the school are mature working class - some married with children and some unmarried, many of which must have left school for so long and must have forgotten the basic knowledge required to cope with advance learning. Some not have enough time for study as expected of them. Some students are comparably less busy but usually have problems studying on their own and always require someone to actually teach them before they could have a clearer idea of the context. Some students are just normally weak academically and therefore need a little more assistance to help them through their studies while some other set of students are very brilliant on their own but only need a little more touch of experience and ideas to supplement theirs. Obviously, many of these students have no real Idea of the system of delivery of the school and expect much more as it is exactly done in part-time studies in conventional universities; several sorveys and students enquiries to us have shown this fact.
EMOSTEL, our Aims and Methods
Our main aims are:
- to provide top standard tutorials
- assist students through their various difficulties
- add more to students' academic strenght
- train students to become what they should be (regardless of their status)
- making studying in NOUN easier and enjoyable, yet meeting up with the required quality and standards.
We achieve our aims by:
- Ensuring our work is directly in line with the school's course materials and research expectations (reference books for further reading)
- Providing useful hints and sharing useful information
- Offering help and full support to students' enquiries and challenges
- Providing rock-solid and highly impacting tutorials with indepth coverage and full attention to students and great focus towards knowledge and understanding
- Preparing comprehensive summarised handouts with keypoints, corrections and formulas plus other materials which make coverage faster and learning easier while additional information are supplied in class
- Assisting students with their assignments by ensuring they are able to solve everything on their own as well as related questions in case of examination
- Offering down-to-earth revision and speedy coverage during examination perriods
And many more.
Since the creation of the academy in 2007, we only emphasize on the Science Students (i.e. students from departments like Computer Science, Communication Technology, Data Management, Environmental Studies and Resourse Management, Mathematics, and the Sciences in the Education Departments).
Fortunately, Students from other (non-science) departments have been showing great interest, knowing what good the tutorial have done to several science students. Thus, we are working really hard to ensure that By 2014, our tentacles will be spread into the other departments like Education, Criminology, and all the Social Sciences (like Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Business Management, etc). Arrangements are already in place. Watch out for new developments on this website.
Currently, we handle students from First Semester 100-level to First Semester 300-Level. As soon as we get more space to accomodate students, we shall cover the remaining levels.
