FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
TMA means Tutor Marked Assignment. It is a Test that all students must do. It will fetch you 30 marks in total (which makes 30% of your scores). There are four TMA questions to be solved per course and each of the four TMAs carry 10 marks. The best 3 scores out of the four TMA scores are recorded and added to your exam scores. The exam is makes the remaining 70%.
Interestingly, majority of the TMA questions are repeated in the exams. This is probably to encourage students to do all their assignments on their own so as to be able to prove themselves in the exam.
We know how important the TMA is to students and we also take it extremely serious at our tutorial centre. That is the reason why we offer full support in the process of answering the TMA questions. We will assist you to get very high scores and as well teach you how to solve every question on your own. In addition, we will print-out all the TMA questions and also make comprehensive notes and handouts for all the solution so that you can use them to practice for the exam. Since some of the school's idea behind the TMA is to ensure that student practice, make research and also get wide and ground knowledge of all the required topics, we ensure that these are achieved by our students as well.

What is TMA and how important is it?
If you fall into this category, you need not worry too much. All you just need to do is to register online as our student and make your monthly payments. You will be eligible for our handouts and other materials. We will assist you online in your TMAs and also provide detailed and fully comprehensive write-ups to support you in the solution for you to have full understanding of how to go about them.
However, you must still find sometime to come around once in a while to participate in live classroom sessions or meet with our teachers to be able to ask questions wherever you need help. Knowledge is so important to us and it is a keyword for all our students. What makes you part of us is what you know like us.

I live far or I am too busy to attend classes, how do I get all your services and tap into all the values attached?
Many of the course materials provided in the school are very voluminous and require a lot of time to complete them. On the other hand, many of NOUN students are working class and barely find time to study. So we need to strike a balance. Being former (and senior) NOUN students, we had gone through the courses and known all the required fields. We know the areas of concentration and we have spotted all the relevant keypoints in them. So in order to help student cover faster and save their time, all those core areas are summarised, explained and brought together to make the handouts.
Secondly, most of the courses that involve calculations (especially the Mathematics and Physics courses) are mostly characterised by a lot of typographic errors which eventually give students tough time to study with them. In our handouts, such errors are corrected, adjusted and/or explained for students to know the actual intention of the facilitator/writer of the course material. This has helped a lot of students learn fast and ease up their studies too.
Thirdly, some courses like CIT132, MTH102, PHY124, etc., have some, many or most of their TMA and Exam questions set outside the course materials. Students who only stick to the course materials often have hard time solving their TMA and Exam questions owing to this reason. We have past experience of all these and we have also integrated some of the topics set outside the course materials into our handouts. This is another reason why our students often excel in all their papers. They are not caught unawares.
Our handouts contain Tips, Tricks, Hints, Short-cuts, Alternative formulas, Keypoints, Explanation, Simplifications, summaries , Extra information from external sources, Research works and a lot more than you can imagine. We take a whole lot of time to put them together, yet offer them at a very cheap rate to our students despite its relevance and impact. A lot of students lives have been transformed through our lectures and handouts.
We do not ask any student to completely abandon the school course materials; however our handouts should be used as study companion and a supplement for the school's course materials. Using the handouts and attending our classes make it very easy to use and comprehend the school's course materials.

Why do I still need Handouts if the school already provided Course Materials?
It seems the tutorial centre is only for youths
Not at all. Although majority our students are youths within the range of 16-35 years of age, we still do have family men and women of range 35-50years of age among us. Everyone is treated with respect, both young and old.
Despite the fact that there is high level of interaction and freedom, our students are very disciplined and highly dilligent towards studies.

For every student, a start date is recorded. The day you start the tutorial is the day your money will be due in the following month. For instance, if you start the tutorial on the 6th of January, your lesson fee will be due for another payment on the the 6th of February.
It is however important to note that we do not allow installment payments any longer. Paying in istallments have caused great damage and accountability issues to us in the time past. Therefore, we urge students to cultivate a savings culture (endeavor to save ahead on daily basis if you are the one who sponsor yourself for the program, so that paying the money at the end of the month would not be any big problem to you).
Please note that there are no extra charges at our tutorial centre besides the lesson fee (which is paid monthly) and the the Registration and Identification fee (which is paid per semester). With the lesson fee, you get ALL the services offered at our tutorial centre.

I didn't start from the beginning of the month, what about my lesson fee?
Yes! As our student, it is very compulsory to have a copy of our handouts. This is because they make our classes easier, smoother and faster. All the notes that are supposed to be written on the board are already there. All you need do is to come to class, listen to lecture, get more examples and explanation from our teachers and ask as many reasonable questions as you can. Having the handouts with you as well helps you to study ahead of the class which opens your mind and enables you to get along and interact with the teacher and with the other students in class.
Your handout fee has already been integrated with your lesson fee so every student that pay is entitled to the handouts.
Handouts will be given out in volumes. Meaning that they are released on monthly basis. Each of the handouts are divided into 3 volumes and each volume will be released at the begining of each month immediately after the student pays lesson fee for that month. All the handouts are not released at once! This is for administrative reasons.
As each semester goes bye, there are usually changes in our administration settings, student requirements, student population, and so on. Therefore, it is very important to regularly update our database and the most useful tool to achieve this is the registration form. For instance, we need to know the number of students that are willing to register for the next semester and the time they intend to start so that we can use their information to prepare their handouts and other useful materials for them. Morever, some students do change their study centre while some come in from another study centre. Some will travel due to their job while some do change their programs to another department. For all reasons, it is necessary to do fresh registration every semester.
ID Card is of great importance in the administrative and co-ordination processes of the tutorial centre. However, Since it carries our image and address, we must secure it to the fullest as we give account of every student that is being identified by us. Thus, it must expire at a given time so that if for any reason, a student is no more with us after a period, we will no longer be accountable for such student.
Students are required to pay a sum of N500 per semester for the registration and identification.
